June 23 19 Good washday. Hans took Velma [to?] 2:30 A.M. train at Dubuque for Eau Claire, Wis. to visit Adele. We helped shell peas & Signe canned 4 1/2 qt. 19 Wrote Hans & 7 After Bible school [session?]. I carried birthday greetings to Mrs. Randall. Hot for once. First peas from garden to eat. 19 We and Riley's Betty Ann Johnson drove to Des Moines at 10. Called on Don Murphy—met his wife who wants me to write cheese story. Dinner at cafe with Florence & Betty Ann. Saw Mr. Feeney, then Capitol. Saw Mike Kelly, Chas. Bogle, Mrs. Turner—drove to Menlo alone. Supper with Aunt Emma at Wildman's [illegible] she & I drove to our old places—Slept at Hitchcock's. 19 Hans & Frank came home after nearly two weeks at farm, so I washed so many berries K had to get 3 pickers Ruth & Chas Utter & Sylvia [Blueher?] Mrs. Buehler, Martha Ahrendt here in eve for comm. mtg. I stemmed gooseberries Hans & I at [illegible]. 19
