JUNE 24 19 Ironed, washed windows, girls cleaned front room & washroom. I was greatly over fatigued - back and kidneys [suffering?]. We also put heater and furnace pipes in attic. 1938. About 100°—a regular scorching. Washed my hair, mopped, finished braided wool rug, sewed rips in front room rug. Reread Edna Ferber's "So Big". 1938. Breakfast with Emily Hitchcock and her guest Mrs. Lindsay of Glidden. Helped them make soap! Dinner with Aunt Addie (and Maud Cummings) in Stuart. 100° in shade—and I drove north in sun to Ogden! Stopped to see Elizabeth Hudson, in WPA [swing?] room in Panora Hotel. We & Riley's and Dora's ate picnic supper in Brookside Park. Allan came from Ky. 1939. Did a lot of cleaning, baked brown bread and gooseberry pie. [Dotte?] Reeder, coming for summer school, brot Miss A. here. Picked raspberries for supper. Also new peas. Miss A. and I made sunshine preserves. 19
