July 10 Continued hot and dry. 1936. Finished Signe's crocheted hat. Read "Restless Days" by Lilo Lenke, a German girls' autobiography. Garden club at Edna Maxwell's. 1937. Picked beans, girls picked peas; we canned 2 qt. beans, 3 qt peas & 4 pt currants, made currant jelly. I baked bread, Hilda dry cleaned. Have K's quilt more than half done. Telegram from Hans. At Pauline's in eve. 1938. Shower in night. Hot day. 10 in my combined S.S. class. Read and rested. Wrote Aunt Minnie & card to Hans. 1939. K sold 8 qt. berries @ 25¢. I helped pick a few. Took Frank to dentist and & lights & battery fixed up. Hemmed another drape. At Pheasant Branch school mtg in eve. 56 there! New treas. Ed Kelly, treated us to ice cream. Put on auditing comm. First turnips. 19
