JULY 21 19 Washed, also ironed and mended some. Rain too late to help garden very much. 19 We gave house some polishing up. 30 here to W.H.M.S. annual picnic. Birthday cake for Belle Broessel. Mrs. Simpson gave book review. Wrote Hans 2 letters, and to Sperley. 19 Picked and sent 5 qt. berries to Mrs. Swodley. Sewed a bit in forenoon, then preparing 6 kinds of vegetables doesn't leave much time. Took nap. Took strip out of old linen tablecloth. White dahlia out, making 16 kinds of flowers in bloom. 19 Letters from Hans and a Bess Clark. Frank went with me to Madison and Parman's in [M?]. Canned 5 qt. apricot and 4 pt. jam. K spent most of day in picking up oats [hay?] and eve at Marvin's. 4 Zeiglers here in eve to play tennis. Lucille's last time here before leaving home. She and Sig saw "Goodby Mr. Chips" 19
