JULY 28 1936 Cooler. Big ironing till noon. Made Frank another shirt. Girls began working with their salad material. 1937. Very hot in sun. K baked bread and cookies. Wrote Olga and Hans. Signe ironed, shampooed, made apron from gingham floursack and made cushions for Morris' chair. Hilda sick. I worked on rug, went downtown. 4 of my S.S. girls here for practising for Sun eve. Leta Small, Madeline, Virginia and Norma. 1938. Picked 2 qt. raspberries, made jelly. Signe home for day, as Kathleen Hilgersbock in hospital. Canned 2-1/2 qt. beans, baked bread. Excess spoilage - 3 of raspberries and of peas. Picked seed peas. First glads in bloom. 1939. 7 spikes of glads in bloom. Had first new potatoes. Frank and I and Mrs. Zentner to Madison in A.M. Got white (nurse's) oxfords. Mended. A fine rain in night, much needed. Wrote Hilda. First cosmos out. 19
