AUGUST 7 1936. Achievement Day at Farley. Signe and Eileen won 1st over 2 other teams, Sherril and Clever Clovers. Hilda won new uniform on her acc't book from Miss Gieseman. 1937. Hot and very dry. Had last of our sweet corn. Hilda baked bread. Mopped. Made cretonne zipper bag. Ella Warton here, back from Clear Lake. Finished reading "Rich Man, Poor Man" 1938. Hilda, Signe, Hans and I left at 8:15 for Ames picnic at McGregor, Iowa. Maybe 75 there. Talk byJohn de Valois. Girls took boat ride. In eve we and Frank called on Barber's. 1939. Got our second mortgage on farm almost cleared off, getting notes from Amanda & Wilbur. Chicken dinner at Amanda's. 11 inc. Hilda and Wayne. Hilda and her grandma went home with us, arriving at 6. Stopped at Luella Ruff's a few minutes. 19
