August 13 1936. Rainy forenoon. Baked cherry pie for pot-luck dinner for annual picnic of Irmscher Aux. at Ruth Beresford's 5 mi. south of Dubuque. 20 went. Ella & signs & I came back thru "Swiss Valley"—had supper there. 1937. Walked down to sent Hans $40. Still not much good. Got boxes that Signe filled with magazines & books. Wrote Dr. John Ise & Franz Kranse. Went thru some boxes—preliminary packing. Grandma Maxwell & Mamie here in eve. 1938. Dressed chicken, canner 3 qt. corn, also made 5 at. pickles for Miss A. Hans came home in time for dinner. Had first lima beans. He went to Maquoketa in eve. 1936 [sic]. Bertha & Hazel went with us to Middleton S.S. After chicken & ice cream dinner, we went to Haley's to get Sig, went thru Tenney Park, saw East High & Vilas Park, & Indians out on 18. Picnic supper at Sunset Point. Signe [C.E.?] leader at outdoor [vespers?] 19
