AUGUST 16 Mr. Reeder asked me to take charge of S.S. Hans and Frank to farm to see Adele who wouldn't come here. Too hot to stir much. Went to see Lillian Bradley and Eileen Callahan, both in bed. About 100°. Signe washed. I dressed 2 young chickens, baked 2 apple pies. Olga's and Velma here for dinner on way home from Lillian's (Mrs. Lloyd [James?], Stanley). Sondra remembered Frank - Garden Club in eve at Lillian Maxwell's. Watched evening primroses come out. I did huge washing, but it rained nearly all day. I canned 4 qt. succotash and 6 qt. pickles (by my mother's recipe). Rest went to Hilgus' in P.M. Felt like singing [first?] time in a week. No nap. Wrote Beatrice. I did huge washing - 5 tablecloths, 8 sheets, etc. Went to see Grace K again, got Frank school shoes. Wrote Mrs. Aitchison. C.E. party in eve, Kathryn on committee.
