SEPTEMBER 12 1936. A rainy day. Signe baked birthday cake for Kathryn. Cleaned kitchen chimney and had first range fire for months. K and I made yeast. Hans home from week at farm. 19 Very cool again. We heard a Baptist service in a Methodist church - missed the Bishop and the conference. Wrote tobacco-harvest. Covered 3 school books for Frank. Got girls school - tuition cards signed at Mrs. Higgs. 1938. Washed, fearing rain, but got all dry but 1 rug. Card from Dora. Ironed a bit. Rain in night and my stomach kept me awake 2 hrs so had to nap. 5.69 inches rain last 7 days - very heavy rain around 2:00 A.M. Wrote Emily H. Hans left for Michigan. 1939. Big ironing. William Meuer brot me bushel of tomatoes and I canned 12 qt. Took Kathryn to choir practise in eve at Comm. Church in eve. Varnished woodwork and floor edge in K's room. 19
