OCTOBER 7 We ironed - I mended. Cooler. Made 2 trips to Brandt's, helping [her?] start pimento cheese. Baked bread, gave my hair its first Wisconsin shampoo. Wrote Bertha. Sent Mrs. Hogan sympathy card - on loss of husband. Sunny part of time. Mended, did some cleaning. Wrote Sarah Field and (7). To Middleton in P.M. Had car heater attached. Baked bread and gumdrop fruit cake. Hans got me fountain pen for my birthday. Shortened K's red rayon dress (Hilda's old one). Hans and I saw "The Rains Came" - coming home in 2 cars! Wrote Hilda.
