OCTOBER 22 1936. Hans out with Thos. Curran, but not here with him as I'd expected. Left at 8:30 for Independence for W.H.M.S. convention. Mrs. Warton, Jennie Maxwell, Opal Hinde and Mrs. Moore going with me - 15 there from Epworth. Home at 6. 1937. Ironed, canned 4 qt. pears, made yeast, baked beans, mended. Cloudy, chilly, a few snowflakes in air. Got delayed check. Wrote (7). 1938. Dressed 2 chickens, made 2 pumpkin pies, baked bread, mopped kitchen, etc. Jay Whitson came at 3;15. Went to Middleton for shoes for Kathryn. Hans Hilda came home about 7. Picked zinnias, nasturtiums. 1939. Start at 6:15, throat sore. Breakfast Deerfield, O, dinner at Ind. Pa, supper at Gettysburg. My first sight of mts. Crossed Allegheny ridge, 2 Blue Ridge. Gorgeous autumn foliage on mt. sides. Sent cards to kids. 360. 19
