Pressed clothes, baked date cakes, downtown for shopping; hemmed (basted) 9 rose hdkfs. for Pauline to stitch on "zig-zagger" for bazaar. 10° 1937. On time at S.S. at Trousdale. Radiator froze a little coming home. Hard to heat house til Frank pumped more soft water out of supposedly empty cistern. Finished reading "An Abandoned Orchard" by Eleanor Risley. 1938. Mailed New Zealand story to F.W. but trip to mailbox didn't help me. Letter from Dora. Wrote Hans. Crocheted. Managed to make noodles and date cookies. Began reading "R.F.D." by Charles Allen Smart. We sent birthday card to Rev. Barber. 1939 Quite a large washing. Went to card club at Mrs. Whalen's. Got 130 points! (Second from booby prize). Very windy. More indigestion, but slept. Another letter from Hilda. 19
