DECEMBER 19 1936. Up at 4:30. Hans and I left before 6 in state car. Arr. Ames 10. Dinner at Dora's. To Des Moines. Christmas crowds. Farewell dinner party for Ray Murray at Savery Hotel. 1937. We all went to S.S. and church at Trousdale. Snowy day. Girls back for practise in P.M. We wrote some 40 Christmas cards. Signe helped wrap our pkgs. 1938. Did 10 days' washing and baked fruit cakes and bread. Signe mixing it and Hilda making a "birthday" cake for Boy Scouts for Frank. To Madison in eve with Hans and Kathyrn. Letter from Dora (Rex treating cancer on nose). Cards from Herman, Bess Eder, Esther Blondall. We set 7 pkg. 1939. We ironed, cleaned up, baked rolls. Eta Lot Club here in P.M. - Henkels, Engelbrecht, Wermuth, Bischoff, Procknow, Whalen, Schwenn and G. Zeigler. I served Iowa ham, tiered cheese salad, hot rolls, crax, strawberry Sundae, star cookies, coffee. Cards from Hodley's, Zentner's. Letter and check from Hans. 19
