A young man, who held the rank of lieutenant in the Virginia Militia and young Lady scarcely eighteen years of age were tenderly attached. Theirs was a love which had been growing gradually, and almost without their suspecting it from childhood. the [time?] approached when the band of the devoted men with whom the young man was connected must enter upon their career of hardship, perhaps of death. nothing daunted, however, they longed for the hour to come. they were mostly young men, full of enthusiasm and zeal for national freedom. the young Lieutenant met the object of his Love. they talked of all the scenes in which they had been actors together. they expressed in language which before they had scarcely dared to employ, their mutual affection; and to them it seemed desirable that they should be wedded before the separation took place. their Parents who were well aware of the attachment of their children and who highly approved of it
