timent was in full - and as I was taken up without notice I made a very small response but did the best I could - Many of the responses were very good and worthy a better celebration than one in a rebel land - I was the officer of the guard yesterday - long will I remember this fourth of july - This is quite a pleasant day and the 42nd. of our service the time flies swiftly and it will soon be gone I care not how soon - Oh how I will appreciate home when I get there -
