stayed and talked with them until nine o'clock when the cows having arrived we started for camp - I never saw "dipping" before. it consists of dipping a brush in snuff and then chewing it, an abominable practice - I felt some uneasiness being so far from camp at night in an enemies country and only two of us. we of course, had a revolver apiece but what good would they do if we should be attact by a dozen guerillas but it is over now and I do not regret it. The Q.M. of the 14th. was gobbled here last summer and was never heard from -
