line Heavy skirmishing in front by 2" brigade 16th Lie in reserve all day In evening 6 companies go out to build works and work all night. The 7 & 19" Ind batteries play most all day upon the enemy 600 yds in front. Col [Lister?] takes command Col W being sick 17" I, H, E, & G move out at 6 any work upon the advanced works. Bury a rebel, A M the Brig moves out to us and I and H are ordered to go on the skirmish line, but before getting there are ordered back. The Regt in 2nd line supporting the battery in the works go after the the Co Knapsacks Draw rations. Artillery opens a Hot skirmish, The enemy charge Australians of the 15 corps. and are repulsed. Our skirmish advance in the evening and gain the outer line of works. Day of the forlorn hope 18 Two squabbles on the lines in the night we getting up twice At 7 we move out in support of the 17" whose skirmishers the enemy [firing?] and into their works in a large field Batteries come up and open
