SUNDAY, JANUARY 31, 1864. Raining and cold all day. Could not go to church. Longed to see "Somebody" increasingly. The children are sick, and Mrs. Triale sad. Mary H - with me. Reading some in Gold Foil" MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1 Started early for Des Moines. Enjoyed reading on the train. Met Capt. Makin and Maj. Scott. Both very kind Discussed "womans rights" with Mr. Wallering. Ended very pleasantly. TUESDAY 2 Rode all night and all day. Mrs.[W?] - was at the Savory House when I arrived. Spent the eve in sweet converse with her. Deeply grateful.
