Frederick City October 30th 1862 This Day has passed Much as other Days business plenty but not an over Stock. Slept untill Eight oclock in consequence of being Disturbed in the night by young man, Gunshot wound in Left Side Gave Him pill of opium & Camphor which he Vomited freeley; Then Gave him Camphor & water & applied aqua ammonia; as Thoroughly as I did to James P. B. Neck when He was threatened with the Croup, which Soon Relieved Him no further trouble; only Fever to Day & dry tongue. give Him antimony in small Doses 1/8 of grain once in 2 hours - operates Finely. This afternoon assisted in Tying External Illiac artery to Suppress Haemorhage from Gunshot wound in Right Groin Tuesday witnessed Resection of Head of Humerous = Resection of Shoulder Joint - & in the P.M. assisted in Resection of Elbow Joint. Wednesday amputation of thigh; Case came near Dying; but finally Rallied & is progressing verry favorably - The tying of Illiac artery is quite an operation; have to open abdomen & press contence aside and tie it near the back bone in Pelvic Region
