Memphis May 4th /63 My Dear Children You probaly know all before now. I arrived here Saturday about 10 M.P. was brought here to the Bluff Citty House with mingled feelingh hope and fear, to learn the worst, even that we were to see Dear pa no more. And my journey has been a fruitless one, except to see his loly bed. I want so badly to take his remains home with me but I am quite uncertain what to do as his money has been sent north allthough I think I could arrange it if I thought best. If I could feel assured the most of the oficers would be left here, and a Monument raised I would leve it here: but when I see hear secession all around me I can hardly do it. A young lady
